The Headless Horseman, by Phillip Ginn

This piece is an homage to a very well-known panel in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, book 4. Go look for it if you don’t know what I’m talking about. I had fun trying to give this Headless Horseman a bit of the bold Miller/Klaus Jansen inking line. I also don’t do a lot of inkwash, but I thought a grey inkwashed sky would give this a bit of depth.

Strathmore 500 2-ply Bristol Board, archival Koh-I-Noor ink, white ink, and white gouache. For Inktober 2015.

Inktober was created in 2009 by artist Jake Parker. His goal was to challenge himself to improve his inking skills and work on developing better drawing habits. Since then, many illustrators around the world participate in Inktober, drawing as many ink drawings as they can – the standard being one a day – throughout October, and they share their work via social media.
