Description
Strong: Survival, by Phillip Ginn
This piece was inspired by the struggles of different ethnicities and marginalized people – in this case, a Black woman. The imagery here implies strength, growth, and survival through time despite being a target of racism and sexism. I have ideas for several more pieces along these lines for different folks from different walks of life, but this counts as the first. This piece is also unique in that it is very heavily painted, something I do not always do.
Done in October 2020. Ink, gouache, and watercolor on 11×15 300lb cold press Arches watercolor paper.
Printed on Red River Aurora Natural White 64lb fine art paper using dye inks.
