Description
The Joker, by Phillip Ginn
This sketch is my continuation in exploring the combination of black ink and gouache, an opaque water-medium paint. It is essentially an opaque watercolor.
This Joker was, in part, inspired by Lynn Varley, one of my very favorite comic book colorists. She used gouache to color The Dark Knight Returns and many of her other collaborations with Frank Miller. Her palette, textures, and subtlety are sublime. No one can touch her. And her use of gouache with Miller’s inks is something worth studying.
Printed on 11×17 Red River Aurora Natural White 64lb fine art paper using Canon ChromaLife100+ long-lasting dye inks.
