Apple feedback

I recently had trouble with my contacts and calendar entries in Entourage: they disappeared. No backups on the PC side were current, so they were basically not useable. A sync from the iPhone meant the loss of all contacts on the iPhone. This lead to a full restore and the attempt to find a way to export the iPhone contacts (fail). After taking the risk and doing a post-restore sync, everything returned to normal. I just … Read More

Payday and other causes for impatience

So, 4-24-2010 is on the horizon, and the month that was March took a lot out of me, schedule-wise. Being indoor percussion competition season in the NCBA, and Easter being this weekend, our entire season was condensed into a compact month, and I was half-asleep for most of that month as a result. Payday has been sitting on my drafting table for that month, relatively untouched. I took to sleeping in, to be quite honest, in … Read More

Good VS Bad – one last (maybe) thought on Leno/O’Brien

There’s this disaster in Haiti that’s making the news. They had a devastating earthquake that will take a lot of time, effort, and money to recover from. So why should we care about a late-night brouhaha on NBC? Why should we care about Jay Leno, villain’s sidesick, and Conan O’Brien, former (as of 1-22-2010) host of the Tonight Show? I can think of two reasons off the top of my head. One, which is a personal … Read More

Leno isn’t the villain…

…but he is the sidekick. I don’t know what Jay Leno’s motivation for going along with NBC upcoming late night programming shift, but I do know that going along with it isn’t a show of class. This is NBC’s mess, and Leno is aiding its happening. That’s what a sidekick does: he aids the main villain. Recently, Leno made a joke about how this controversy has helped increase Conan O’Brien’s ratings. I cry foul on this … Read More

Conan VS Jay – I’m jumping on the blog-about-NBC bandwagon

Despite the fact that I don’t find Jay Leno funny, I respect him. Or rather, I respected him. The man works, and works hard. He hosted a late night show every weekday, never missing a show until forced to do so for medical reasons, and performed stand-up when not producing the Tonight Show. He always presented himself to be a classy fellow that seemed like he’d be likable in person. Before I go on, read this … Read More

Harbor Light Family Restaurant – Reedsport, OR

Last Oregon food report! Finally! This took, what… three-plus months? On our way home to California, we stopped in Reedsport, OR for lunch. It was a coastal town, and pretty charming. While using the iPhone to search for decent places to eat (what did we do before Internet phones? We just saw a place and stopped, is what), we found that the Harbor Light Family Restaurant was nearby and had received a few good reviews. In … Read More

Mo’s Annex – Newport, OR

Boy, I’m getting behind in this whole Oregon chronicle, aren’t I? A quick qualifier for this review: when I opened the draft, lo and behold… no notes. I thought I’d written down notes for this review but there were none to be found. So, let’s see how my memory serves. If my memory can’t justify a criticism, I’ll be sure to leave it out. Mo’s is a pretty popular food attraction in Oregon. So popular, in … Read More

Ella Dining Room and Bar – Sacramento, CA

The wife and I decided to splurge for our wedding anniversary dinner. We wanted to dress up. We wanted a nice, elegant evening with great food. We went to Ella and got exactly what we wanted. First, the food. The FOOD. When I go to a restaurant, I want good food. Sure, I expect great service, but if the food is great, it just might overshadow poor service. I have said on numerous occasions to my … Read More

Balcony Bistro – Folsom, CA

It was our wedding anniversary yesterday and the wife and I decided that Chicago Fire in Folsom, CA would be a great place to go. We ate there on our wedding night (after the wedding and reception, of course) and it’s close to the outlets where we’d be able to do some clothes shopping. Unfortunately, Chicago Fire was closed for lunch. We remembered an upstairs eatery along the same street and thought we’d check it out. … Read More

Pietro’s Pizza, the 4 year wait – Salem, OR

Though very late, I’m continuing with my food reviews from our trip summer trip to Oregon. I feel it’s important that I do so, because our next food outing was Pietro’s Pizza. I first visited Pietro’s when my wife and I were in Salem, OR for my now brother-in-law’s wedding, about four years ago as of this writing. I had incredibly fond memories of this pizza: the chewy crust with the cornmeal on the bottom, the … Read More

Demand Studios: The “Adventure” Continues…

So here I am, still freelancing for Demand Studios, except that lately, I’m finding less articles that I can research and write quickly to justify the pay per article. I generally try not to work more than three hours when writing two articles. At $15 per article, that works about to about $10 per hour, provided I actually work no more than three hours. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of stuff that prevents me from continually finding … Read More

All American Rejects

I’m watching a rerun of The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and All-American Rejects is the musical guest. After watching them for a bit, I have a short message for them: Dear All-American Rejects, Don’t look like this and play shitty, wimpy pop-rock “music”. Please stop. You’re terrible. Sincerely, Phillip

Me am professional writer? – My first week with Demand Studios

I haven’t posted anything new for a while, to this blog or to my drum blog. I’ve been a busy guy, not that that’s an excuse, but it is a reason. And, as I had forseen, I simply took on too many projects to be timely successful at any one of them. As of yesterday, I finished my first week as a freelance writer, approved to write for Demand Studios, a content provider for places like … Read More

Marché Café – Eugene, OR

Our second restaurant stop in Oregon was in Eugene. We stopped there to visit a friend that had just relocated. Out to lunch we went, heading past the University of Oregon to the 5th Street Market. Upstairs, there is a pleasant, roomy eating area, much like a ritzy food court, where several different eateries are located: Greek (Café Glendi), an Italian (Noli Italian Café), Middle-Eastern (Casablanca), and fish ‘n’ chips (Go Fish), There is also the … Read More

Louie’s Bar and Grill – Ashland, OR

During the last week of July, my wife and I set out to Oregon with her sister and brother-in-law. The plan was to hit Ashland and stay in a motel, drive up to the Rogue Valley State Park to camp out, trek up to Eugene to visit a friend, make our way to Salem to visit my wife and sister-in-law’s brother, head out to the Beachside State Park to camp again, then drive on home. Whew. … Read More

WordPress app for iPhone

I just downloaded the WordPress app for the iPhone. It’s a neat idea, if not a little ridiculous; does anyone really need to blog that often? I thought that’s what Twitter was for. Ah well. Setting up is easy. The one thing I don’t like, which goes for several apps (such as Twitterific for iPhone) is that it saves your password. Since the iPhone is pretty much a computer for our pocket, I’d much rather treat … Read More

Weekly comics progress update: 5-16-2009

I’ve managed to stick to my morning drawing schedule (with the exception of yesterday, but there were good reasons), which I’m proud of. However, this Friday-update thing is, I suppose, too relaxed. I did a good job keeping up when it was every day, but with so much time in between I’ve tended to miss my Friday posts. In any case, here are three penciled pages from Payday (click on the thumbnails to view “full” size”). … Read More

Redesign… we’re almost done!

If you’re visiting the site during my redesign and you’ve come across weird stuff (I know I have), thanks for putting up with it. We’re almost done here. In fact, the last thing I have left to do is to create a stylesheet for IE users (and if there are any out there… SHAME on you! You should be using Firefox or Safari!). I’ve spent pretty much all night Friday and most of Saturday working on … Read More

Books. REAL books.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I walked into my friend’s apartment the other day. He wasn’t quite ready to go out just yet, so I sat in the lounger to wait. I looked over to my left and saw the bookshelf, which contained, of course, many, many books. I immediately got up to see what he and his roommate were reading, had read, referenced, or had referenced. In other words, I got up … Read More

Huge Black Man & other stuff

I never posted this because originally, this was supposed to be an album cover for a “band” called Huge Black Man, headed by my friend (and now business partner) Noah Clark, drummer for Brilliant Red Lights. Unfortunately, that album doesn’t look like it’s going to come out, so I figured I’d post it now. I got to hear the music a while back, and it’s some really good, instrumental-neo-rock-improv. I liked it. I can’t remember if … Read More
