I take it by some of the reaction to the new Supergirl promo that females with the personality of the new show’s Supergirl character – bubbly and happy, living in the shadow of another, unsure of herself yet strong on the inside, trying to do something meaningful with her life and the gifts she has – just do not exist?

I would beg to differ. Not every strong female character needs to be hard-edged. Do they? I’m sure there are plenty of real-life, strong females that aren’t hard-edged at all and instead exhibit the above traits. In fact, I know there are, because I know some personally. I watched the promo and didn’t get what the “controversy” was about. I know girls like that. And they ain’t weak.

And as for her being like Superman but – gasp! – she’s a girl, well… she IS a girl with Superman’s powers. Don’t you know any girls with similar talents as guys you know, yet they’re completely different people? I do. They’re called “individuals”.

Craig Christ… leave some room for different types of strong female characters. If you don’t like one type or one character, that’s fine. There are plenty of other strong female characters for you to choose from.
